Cyborg and Muton

|

I have no idea who took these pics, other than it must have been someone with a very keen interest in Cyborg and Muton. I must have saved these images a while back, and only just found them tucked away in a folder in my PC. I think these are great pics and may as well post them here just in case I lose them in the PC spring clean I am about to embark on.

Swap Shop!!!!!!

|

Well, any child of the seventies will have fond memories of this. I know that there was Tis Was as well, but I preferred to watch SS compared to the mayhem on the other channel. I would only really turn over for Space 1999.

I used to wish that Cheggers would come to our area, and let me swap some stuff for other stuff. Never happened though. Still, this pic reminds me of my days on Noels House Party. It was the very last series, and Noel had just been royally shafted by the Beeb and Peter Salmon. So the last show of the last series was going to be something to remember.

The end joke on the the show, the coda, was that they would flash back to the swap shop studio, where Noel, Cheggers, Posh Paws and John Craven were there and Noel came too, saying that he had just had a terrible nightmare (referring to Crinkley Bottom et al).

A nice touch, and very poignant.

Anyway, good to see that they will all be back for a one off, and good to see that NE is back (well, he never really went away did he?)

House Party was a breath of fresh air to me, stuck in Cable and satellite hell as I was at the time.. Although the show was not pulling in quite as many millions as it had years before, it was still a solid show, but some form of American networkism crept in, and rather than help it…. they killed it.

Anyway, water under the bridge etc etc etc

Music, Lights and Parker Posey

|

Well, it had to happen…. getting side tracked and putting some of my old vinyl onto the turntable and seeing how much of the stuff I thought was great at the time stands the test of time. I remember as a kid trying to cram as many tracks of mine and Deans onto a C90 Cassette.

In Fact, as and when we could, we would be stuck in the corner of the lounge where the Akai separates would be, and creating our own compilation tapes. Obviously, being a lot older than me, his music collection was better but ultimatly it inspired mine (until a certain indie Goth sidelined me and I found myself listening to the dark side…).

Although often scoffed at, one album that I practically wore out back then was Imaginations In The Heat of the night, their 2nd album, following on form their debut breakthrough album BODY TALK

Listening to the album now it still stands up, and certainly defines that era of the eighties.

The stand out tracks are obviously Music and Lights, Just an Illusion and in the heat of the night. I think Changes was a weak single release, and the next album (Scandalous) was probably the last decent and notable release from them. I think that after that there were some label and management issues and then the line up changed.Anyway, they are now well and truly in the Where are they now section of British soul, and will more than likely be paraded out in front of Simon Amstell on Buzz cocks so that some nom du jour tries to figure out which one is which in the line up….

Speaking of Du Jour, reminds me of Josie and the Pussy Cats and the very very wrong song, Back Door Lover that starts this “kids” film….. Its classic Seth Green and the gang…. but very very very wrong! Its also one of the very few films where Alan Cumming doesn’t wind me up.

Funny as hell tho!

Oh, and also has the wonderful Parker Posey who, well… er….. you know, kinda pushes all the right intellectual buttons

Whilst converting some LP’S to MP3 for my Brother, I came across on e of my own. I cant believe this album is 20 and a half years old! I remember the day I bought this record….. Every track was just full on! And playing it now, still sounds pretty dam fine!
